Whare Flat 12.85kms 07:55 Completed
Akatore 32.16kms 09:05 Completed A new variation on well used roads in the Akatore Forest. Starts on flowing public road (medium metal) with 15 km on fast forestry roads with ‘sharp’ gravel that can cause puncture problems. Last 5 km back on public gravel roads.
Coal Gully 6.38kms 09:40 Completed First used in 2008 and was an instant favourite. A short fast public road stage, predominantly downhill with plenty of room to get sideways.
Kuri Bush 15.11kms 11:00 Completed Unchanged from 2007 / 2008. New Zealand’s version of Finland! Classic stage with huge crests. Rewards the brave and those that should be committed.
McIntosh Road 8.12kms 11:25 Completed Not used since 2007. A short blast on a fast flowing public road that then tightens onto a ‘dry weather road’ with a huge dip. Always spectacular at the midway spectator point that includes a short stretch of tarmac.
Waipori Gorge 12.99kms 12:45 Completed A classic public road gravel stage alongside the Waipori River. Tighter than most Otago stages with medium gravel over a hard base. Could be icy.
Glenburnie 1 42.3kms 13:10 Completed A repeat of last year’s monster (but with some minor changes). Starts in the Berwick Forest using arterial forestry roads that are mainly wide and hard surfaced gravel. Some short sections of rougher gravel but most is smooth. Last 15 km on public roads with very fast downhill finish.
Tarmac Super Special 2.15kms 15:00 Completed Used every year since 1996. Four laps of a city block in front of a big crowd. Tarmac tyres permitted but must comply with Schedule A.
