reconnaissance. Public road with medium gravel. Two 500 m long sections of tarmac. Lots of blind brows.

Danseys Pass 29.07kms 10:12 Completed A classic stage over a sub–alpine pass. Medium gravel. A mixture of fast and twisty sections and large drops in places. A real challenge that was last used in 2001.
Shag Valley Back Rd 1 7.62kms 11:32 Completed A new stage that has a large ford at a spectator point only 400 m into the stage. Treat with caution! The rest of the stage is all uphill on medium gravelled public road.
Taieri Peak 29.24kms 12:47 Completed Used in the 2008 Silver Fern but not as part of Rally Otago for many years. Public road that has some gnarly brows. Last 3 km has been realigned to make way for Macraes Gold Mine and is heavily gravelled.

Kuri Bush 15.11kms 08:20 Completed Probably the best stage of the lot. New Zealand’s version of Finland. Classic stage with huge crests. Rewards the brave and those who should be committed.
Waipori Gorge 12.99kms 09:15 Completed Another stage we couldn’t leave out. Run uphill – same as 2008 / 2009. Tighter than most Otago stages with medium gravel over a hard base. Could be icy. Watch out for the river alongside the road.
